Destiny - Part 1
So It Begins ~ Glimpse of a New World!

Paulista Subway Station, São Paulo - SP, Brazil
06:25 AM (Monday)

School was going to begin for São Paulo Metropolitan in an hour or so, and promptly did Flavio go to the subway station to get his ride for school. Soon he was joined by the Freedom Fighters, too, as they used to wait together for the train for the Metropolitan.

"Hey, dude!" Derek greeted. "How's it going!"

Flavio turned around to face them, scaring them witless at first, since his face was almost nightmarish. He had huge dark circles under his eyes, his expression was tired, but definitely sleepless, and he looked overall miserable.

"GAAAH!!" Luke yelped at the sight. "Dude, what happened to you!?"

"Five... freaking nights... without sleep..." he said weakly. "I'm only now going to school, I... I can't keep skipping class..."

"Dude, you can ask for a slip, you're not well!" the guitar player said. "Health before study, and not a word out of you!"

"Yeah, go back home, it's okay." John added. "We'll talk to Madame M, she'll understand."

Flavio smiled slightly, genuinely thankful. He was about to say something, until...

"WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT!!!"

The teens looked at the platform, where the scream came from, to see not a subway cart speed by, but some sort of projection. Or at least, that was what it seemed to be, a flickering image of... something. But it did cause a gust of wind to pass, indicating it was real, but at the same time it felt external, like a hologram. Some sort of train-shaped creature, with four eyes on the front, a pair on each side, and a huge maw filled with razor-sharp teeth. The group of friends watched that... thing speed by, startling everyone in the station, and for a brief moment causing the lights to flicker.

Soon it simply vanished into the tunnel, quite literally. People were startled all around, not knowing what to make of the sudden shape. But the group knew what to think.

"Guys..." Flavio said it first. "I-I didn't just have a vivid hallucination from lack of sleep, right? Th-that just happened, right??"

"You can't be hallucinating, I saw it too..." Derek said. "I think a lot of people did..."

"Y-you guys do know what that was, right??" the bass player asked.

They all looked at each other and... smiled widely.

"A DIGIMON!" they said in unison.

They looked around, as a few people stared at them, wondering what they were talking about. The four quickly made their way upstairs, to the station's entrance at the main business avenue in the city.

"A Digimon!!" John said, cheerfully. "An actual Digimon!! Which one was that, what was the name, it was,  umm..."

"Trailmon!" Luke pointed out. "Solid Trailmon, the same one from Frontier!!"

"We gotta tell Doc about this!" Flavio said, a bit more awake. "Everyone come closer, I'll teleport us there with light spe--"

"No way." the young drummer interjected. "You'll knock yourself unconscious!"

"It's no time to discuss that, just hold my hands!"

They did so, and immediately they were gone from the station in the blink of an eye.

===Meanwhile=====================================================================

Doc waited eagerly at his home's room as Maria finished her breakfast. His new daughter was ready for her first day of school, finally after all the crisis seemed to be over for the time being. Sure, there might be more, but her education is a new priority on his list.

"Are we all ready?" he asked, chipper, as Maria put on her backpack.

"Yes we are, Do-- I mean, father..." she said with a chuckle. "I'll do it naturally soon, I'll bet."

"Hey, no rush, it's okay." Doc said with a smile. "It's a bit new to you, it takes some time getting used to it, both this and the new school. But hey, the car's ready and I'll leave you right at the gates. Just make sure you have your phone on you at all times and you will be fine."

"I know. Thanks a lot, do-- Father...!" she nodded, stammering a bit again.

"Like I said, no rush." he reassured her with another smile.

They left out the front door towards the garage. Shadow was already outside, waiting for them.

"You're coming with us to school?" Johnathan asked with slight sarcasm.

"I'll follow just to see her there." he said, grinning back at him.

"Aw, that's so sweet of you...!" she said, kissing him on the cheek. "Thank you, Shadow!"

He blushed, losing the pose right there. Doc laughed a bit louder as he went to the car to start it, but then...

"Doctor, over there!" Shadow called out.

Johnathan followed his pointing finger to a shocking sight: out of absolutely nowhere, the image of a large ogre-like creature wielding a club, battling what seemed to be a large black-and-white triceratops, the sounds emitted by the struggle all too real for flickering images.

"What are those?!" Maria questioned.

Doc took his own cellphone out to try and document the event, but as soon as it was on camera mode, the images vanished as easily as they appeared. Furthermore, his phone began blinking unexpectedly, the screen flashing for no apparent reason, same with Maria's.

"And what's this now?!" she added, confused.

"Father..." Shadow said, as calmly as he could. "Seems we'll have to take Maria to school some other time."

"Agreed..." Doc said. "Maria, to the car, and Shadow, please follow us to the lab. We're gonna have some work to do, it seems..."

They both nodded and did as told, in order to get to the laboratory.

Thorndyke Building
06:40 (Monday)

Doc, Maria and Shadow rushed through the lobby of the building towards the lab, surprised at seeing the Fighters fanning a knocked-out Flavio on the couch.

"Well, not to say I didn't expect you here..." Doc said. "What happened to him??"

"He's been without sleep for five nights straight!" Luke said, using his bass to fan him. "And THEN, he decides to be a skullhead and use light speed to bring us here!"

"He fell down as soon as we appeared here in the lobby!" John added, doing a drum roll with his drumsticks to lift up some wind at him.

"The couch won't solve it, then, get him to the infirmary!" Shadow said, him and Luke propping up Flavio to carry him there.

"Five nights straight??" the scientist inquired, pushing back his glasses as usual. "I'll check for nightmares later."

He was about to head to his computer, when he stopped. He had a feeling, and he didn't read their minds yet, so...

"Speaking of which..." he said slowly. "Is the reason why you're here anything related to suddenly seeing an image of some sort of monster appear right in front of you?"

"A Digimon, yeah." Derek said bluntly. "Saw it too?"

"Why am I not surprised you know what's going on more than I do when it comes to this...?" Doc sighed.

"Digimon...? Is that what they are?" Maria asked. "I mean... the ones we saw were this... ogre-like one, and a giant triceratops with no colors..."

"Ogremon and Monochromon." the drummer pointed out. "Yeah, they're all Digimon. We saw a Trailmon down at the subway station."

"...Is every single one of those names ended in 'mon'?" Doc asked.

"Yeah, it's like Pokémon, kinda. That 'mon' is a suffix meaning 'monster'. 'Digi' comes from 'digital', because they come from a world inside the internet or something."

"The internet...?"

Doc rushed to his main operating station and tried to start up his own computer, but it wouldn't start. All it did was blink for a while before deactivating. It clearly didn't want to be turned on.

"So that would explain the anomaly with the electronic devices..." he theorized. "And I am pretty sure this is happening to others of this kind as well..."

"Our phones are bugging out too." Luke said, coming back in with Shadow. "Have been since back at the subway..."

The doctor pondered a bit more, looking at the glitching computer screen.

"A whole world inside the web..." he whispered.

Did not take long for them to hear a buzzing sound filling the office. John was the first to spot the problem.

"HUMMINGBIRD!"

It flew up to everyone's sight and its screen turned on, showing Ryan Weever's all-too-familiar face.

"Connection problems, Johnathan?" the Englishman asked, ironically. "How ironic that the entirety of the areas with access to the internet has the same issue..."

"And I supposed you tracked it first only so you can boast about it at my face, Ryan?" Doc mused ironically.

"I'd be foolish to not admit there is a slight bit of it in there... But you know what they say, do you not? Keep friends close and enemies closer. And I'd trust no one else in case something was amiss. Now attention."

Doc was certainly confused by that last remark, but the screen quickly flashed away from Ryan's face to show images related to his following explanation.

"See, the issue we are currently having with the World Wide Web is that, rather suddenly, four different information channels have appeared, and seem to be transmitting massive loads of said information into our reality." Ryan said.

"Our 'reality'?" Derek asked. "What're you talking about, Weever?"

"I am no fool, Mr. Hetfield. Dr. Ponsonby has been attempting to trace the origin point of each channel, and while the results are still rather vague, two details are certain: the information transmitted into the Surface Internet seems to be powerful enough to be slowly reshaping its structure."

"Reshaping the internet?!" Luke cried out. "That easily?! I have stuff to do with it!"

"I'm sure it will not vanish, so fear not about your social media accounts. But there is still the second factor, the most disconcerting... All four conduits have different degrees of complexity... Yet most of the information sent in is nearly, if not exactly, the same."

"Different degrees with similar content?" Johnathan asked. "So what you're implying is that..."

"We may be dealing with four different sources of coding. Or perhaps the same source, with different means of transmission, but that would not explain the different levels of data transmission."

"Constants..." Doc uttered. "And variables..."

"Well there ARE many Digital Worlds..." Luke muttered.

This got Ryan's curiosity immediately.

"Digital WORLDS, you say?" he asked. "So these conduits are not only coming from different worlds, but by definition, can also be somehow accessed?"

Doc mentally slapped Luke on the back of the head for letting that detail slide.

"Well, if that is the case, I'll have SHAME look into access to them immediately." Weever went on. "Thank you for your contribution. I promise to take a peaceful approach. Goodbye for now, sirs. Johnathan. Recluse."

Shadow growled at that last insult, the Hummingbird flying away.

"Well thanks a BUNCH, Knucklehead the Second!" Derek spat.

"Hey, it slipped off me, okay??" he said, defending himself. "I had no idea his hearing was THAT good!"

"It doesn't matter." Doc said, breaking their conflict. "Ryan would've found out sooner or later anyway. Right now I need to monitor his activities before... he... Agh..."

He suddenly fell to one knee, holding onto his head as it ached profusely. The others immediately rushed to his aid.

"Father!?" Maria exclaimed. "What's going on!?"

"Something's wrong...!" he said in-between grunts. "I'm getting too much... brain activity...! All of it negative...!"

Derek was the first to gasp, followed by the others, as Flavio was now standing there in front of the doorway to the infirmary, in a zombie-like state, his gaze downwards to the floor.

"Flavio...?" Shadow asked, genuinely concerned.

"...The conduits shall reshape the Super Information Highway..." he spoke, his voice sounding like a modulated, recording-like version of his natural voice. "...Hatred will consume every corner of the internet... The Digitals will wither... Mankind will be shrouded in a dark veil... I am... the ocean..."

He looked upwards at them, his irises a disturbing glow of crimson.

"...and everything will sink into the abyss..."

"Dude, stop creeping us out!!" Derek pleaded.

"That's not our bro!!" Luke shouted.

"Someone do something!" John called.

Finally he was blasted against a wall by a Chaos Spear, hitting his head and being knocked out. Shadow put his inhibitor rings back on.

"Boys, you'll have to go home without him..." he said. "That little trick just now tells me our friend's been having more than simple nightmares..."

"We'll tell Mrs. and Mr. E that he's sleeping at our place." the guitarist said. "Tell us if he gets any better, or if anything else happens..."

Doc nodded as the band members went on their way home, hoping for things to get better soon.

Ryan's Castle, Royal District - Britannia
Later that night

Ryan's loyal robot butler Timothy sighed, activating the auxiliary systems so the city would function properly, even without SHAME, who was involved in the quest to uncover these Digital Worlds the teens let slip off their tongues. The butler was left alone to oversee the city's systems.

"Every time I have to ponder if I am doing the right thing..." he said, thinking to himself out loud. "Letting the Sire partake in these tasks... These... Digimon, certainly do not seem all that friendly..."

He slowly walked towards the waiting room, sitting on the couch.

"I do indeed hope he knows what he is doing..."

Suddenly there was an alarm, signaling an issue at the central computer in Ryan's throne room.

"The throne room...!" Timothy said in alarm as he rushed to the elevator.

After the long ascension, he rushed over to his master's desk, typing at the holo-keyboard as the sound kept blaring all over, until finally something happened.

The holo-screen flashed brightly, letting out a life-sized image of a mole-like Digimon with a drill horn on its head. It roared before vanishing again, the screen displaying a fast increase in activity, the portals being signaled as open despite Timothy himself closing them after Ryan's departure.

"I have to call Doctor von Neuron...!" he exclaimed. "At this rate, the Internet will not hold out much longer!"
Yep, I'm giving them episode titles, to reference the Japanese dubs a bit more, since they're the ones I grew up with. Albeit with Portuguese dubbing xD

As such, I'll also include sound links for each episode title, depending on which Digital World we're talking about. Buuut since we're talking an introduction chapter without a Digital World being visited at first, I'll use this song as the title card theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUK4qi…

Anywho, hope you guys enjoy it!
